Social Media Gets Local With Tweetups
Well this is officially my 2nd “Tweetup” in the Tampa Bay area and it was a blast.
This is how social media get’s local and we put a face with the tweet. It was a record attendance where just over 200 people showed up. Needless to say @juliagorzka of Brandtampa and @sigepjedi of Tampabloggers who both co-hosted the event had a great turnout.
There’s lots to learn from taking something as cool as Twitter offline and Tweetups are no different.
More importantly is what this is doing for the community.
This monthly event isn’t only giving people a chance to connect and engage with other tweets but it’s also giving people the change to get out and experience places in the local community that they may not necessarily do on a regular basis.
Community, awareness, connection & local awesomeness as @juliagorzka calls it. What we do for online communities is good for off line communities as well.
The cherry on top was that there were local reporters there checking everything out and interviewing people all while penguins waddled around and sharks messed with tweeters. (Actually a huge jew fish was the closest encouner I saw with one of the divers lol)
Also this is the first video I’ve done with the new Mac Book Pro. I made the switch this past weekend and couldn’t be more excited.
I get the whole Mac thing now and I’ll be writing about it along with the marketing and the “tribe” following that goes along with it. I already find myself dancing around my Mac and doing chants. 🙂
In the meantime enjoy the video.
