As I See Local Social Media
You’re probably going to think I’m a nut job for what I’m about to share with you but that’s quite ok right? π
I see it as we’re in this mash up of a society right now with old school & new school business practices popping up and falling down all around us.
The traditional way of advertising & doing business in our local markets is certainly not dead by any means but is certainly taking quite the hit right now. With many businesses feeling the squeeze to the point of going out of business they are looking for buts in seats.
Let’s talk about something first: I talked about not twittering anymore and obviously there was good merit in why but consider the below statement.
Passion & simplicity are catalyst for a great idea that spreads. In our case Twitter forces us to keep the idea simple, to only 140 characters. Add passion and a message that others can get behind and viola, you have traffic!
A Catalyst For Change
Julia Gorzka, among many things is a passionate social media strategist.
She’s a very passionate person with more than a few good ideas to share. Not just in & around her community with Brand Tampa but beyond.
As you can see in the video she’s very passionate about the use of Twitter & the ability for local businesses & organizations to capitalize on it. (She was talking to the manager of the restaurant that we were having lunch at.)
I’ve spent some time with her lately and everywhere we go she’s spreading the idea of Twitter. Especially to local businesses & organizations.
That day, I started to get a glimpse of just how powerful Twitter can be in the realm of local social media. The nutty part is coming up, just hold on. π
A Good Hustle
“The difference between a professional hustler & a hustling professional is the later provides massive amounts of value.“-Me
All of my friends that I know are hustling professionals. Their goal is to create relationships, provide massive amounts of value via a great idea and in the shortest time possible.
Twitter is just a tool that gives us that ability.
I believe in the very near future, provided you have the right message, you and I will have the ability to have tribes of people converge upon a place of business or events in mass. That’s right. Every day people.
Why is that a big deal?
Here’s the nutty part…
Because I think you and I will have the ability to do it with out the use of traditional advertising platforms. Local Social media could bypass newspapers, radio and TV advertising and quite frankly I’m not sure yet just how they will handle it.
I heard that at a local Tampa Tweet Up that over 118 people attended it.
Here is one thing I’ve learned. If it can happen with 118 people why not 1180 or even 118,000?
Just a little time and the spreading of the idea and it’s a reality. What do you think I’m doing with this post. π
The last Tweet Up event was held at the local Museum of Science & Industry, (MOSI for short) and the location received attention that evening but gains residual exposure from it still today. Hmm I think I just did that with this post too. π
Relationships Are Still Everything
My point is that relationships & Relationship skills are still everything today.
I met Julia because of a local Internet marketers Meet Up group. It was technology as a tool that connected us but it was the skill of personal relationships & development that keeps it thriving and working.
However because of connecting with her my whole mental make up around local social media & social media in general has taken afoot.
It’s all about relationships & personal development is the foundation of sustaining those relationships after you’ve engaged in them.
I’ve already established other very important relationships via social media that I may never have had otherwise like David Risley, Ryan Wade, Craig Garber & Barry Nicholson
What Is Your Realization
My ability to not only engage others but really connect with them has been key to my success off line. Engaging is one thing, I believe anyone can engage but truly connecting with someone is where the power of relationships comes from.
The beauty now is my ability to engage on line and connect into the off line world.
It’s my ability to passionately embrace this concept that will continue to help me and my business grow.
Sharing the idea with others can only bring benefit to this changing economy. What about you?
By the way. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t believe just because a person has a twitter account and an idea that they will be able to drive people to a place of business in mass. It will still take relationship development & marketing skills.
Also the idea of using tools like Twitter to encourage involvement in local events and drives for non profits is huge as well.
However, “The tool will only be as much use as the persons skill who is wielding it.“-Me
Personal development and self awareness are going to be more important than ever in this fast changing world of on line & off line social social media frenzy. If you don’t focus on them you could very well be in a fast vehicle but not knowing how to drive it.
Embrace change and educate your awareness or you may be left behind.
The great news is that you and I can learn those skills immediately. I’m on top of things so far, how about you?
